DAVEY LANE

Sat 7th October 8:30pm

Davey Lane has been honing his craft for quite a while now – working in the studio and on stage with artists such as Crowded House, Jimmy Barnes, Robyn Hitchcock, Masters’ Apprentices, The Saints as well as legendary Australian rock group You Am I, with whom he has been standing stage right on lead guitar since 1999. Years of learning from many local and international songwriting greats have seen Davey himself grow in turn as a songwriter, with a smart pop sensibility, a keen ear for a big chorus and a surreal turn of phrase.

The culmination of his apprenticeship sees Davey emerge, after months of solitary nocturnal pottering in his Headley Garage studio, with his second full length LP. Entitled I’m Gonna Burn Out Bright, it’s melancholy lyrical themes of mortality and one's place in the universe are framed in joyous, brash space-pop melodies, forming a veritable collection of long-lost radio hits of eras current and bygone.

Featuring the symphonic pop of first single Taurus All Apart, the grandiose pastoral folk of This Is Hell (as featured in ABC TV’s upcoming medical drama Pulse), and the XTC-meets-Kate Bush synth-pop of My Apple Lady Cried, I'm Gonna Burn Out Bright - whilst mainly a solo album in the very sense of the word - also features guests from members of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Saskwatch, Dorsal Fins and GL and Laura Jean. The record is Davey’s bold love letter to great pop music through the ages, making something concurrently universal and completely his own.

Today Davey Lane also shares a video clip for ‘Taurus All Apart’, in Davey words - “a well worn tale of paranoia, misunderstanding and imaginary subterfuge - and the fallout that comes with it. I ham-fistedly hammered out one chord for the verse and another for the chorus and let the bass go for a walk as they say. It’s a fun tune.”

I'm Gonna Burn Out Bright is out August 18th, on Capgun Kids thru MGM Distribution

THE OCEAN PARTY

Sat Sept 9th 8:30pm

Melbourne's The Ocean Party celebrate the release of their seventh album Beauty Point with a national tour that takes in Kyneton on Saturday 9th September at Major Tom's.

On the album, Beauty Point:

After their 2016 release, Restless the band once again took to writing new material while touring and shaping the next full-length entrant to their oeuvre. Beauty Point arrives a year later and showcases the shifts in the lives and inspirations of The Ocean Party over that time.

Recorded in two parts, Beauty Point began to be realised in a week of sessions at a house/studio in Stanwell Park, N.S.W. The beautiful cliffside location was contrasted by the album's final sessions; these took place in the bands inland hometown of Wagga Wagga on top of Beauty Point Drive - the town's central lookout. As an album created very much on-location the band found the two environments painting a dichotomy in their work from two very different perspectives of beauty.

Beauty Point balances moments of introspection with visceral expression as themes of identity, belonging and significance are brought into the light by the shared perspectives of the band's six songwriters.

HUGO RACE & MICHELANGELO RUSSO: JOHN LEE HOOKER'S WORLD TODAY

Fri 18th Aug

Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo are no strangers to either Hooker or the blues. Hailed as a supreme influence on the music of their band Hugo Race & The True Spirit, Race and Russo’s reimagining of Hooker is simultaneously blues, electronica, avant-garde and ambient, a homage to one of the greats of rock and roll prehistory. Recorded in a single, continuous day and night live session at the Berlin studio of Einsturzende Neubauten engineer Boris Wilsdorf, this is an epic album of sonic sorcery suspended in time and place on the 100th anniversary of Hooker’s birth.

SODA EAVES with Dallhousie

Sat 12th Aug 8:30pm

Soda Eaves play distinctly Australian folk music, incorporating atmospheric blues, lucid dream pop and warped found sounds.  They have released two LPs - 'Like Drapes Either Side' (2013) & 'Murray, Darling' (2016) - with a third due in the near future. Soda Eaves will be joined by Dalhousie, the new project of Frank Moylan.

"Somewhere between folk, pop and shoe-gaze, Soda eaves have an enchanting sway that sifts through their understated, reverberating glory" - Swelltone Music

"Capturing a world most of us will never see, Core's slacker folk tales take us to a dusty time in the past of seedy lustre in downtown Australia. The lo-fi introspection is somewhat hypnotic and would work well on the beach staring into space or enjoying doing nothing sat in the sun."            -  Rough Trade

MILES AND SIMONE

FRI 4TH AUGUST 8:30PM

She and I Single Launch

Heartbreaker alt-country duo Miles and Simone weave their lonesome seaside lullabies and ballads with restraint - two sublime voices, gentle melodies, poetic lyrics and hilarious banter. The duet release first single, She and I, off upcoming EP produced by acclaimed producer Dan Luscombe (The Drones, Courtney Barnett) who has drawn out the darkness from the pair's sweet and mournful love ballads. With Pete Luscombe (Paul Kelly) driving the rhythm train on an old snare drum, Dan working his magic on a slide guitar and Jules Pascoe (Jazz Party) bringing up the bottom end on his upright double pass, the outcome is a hollering freight train of a song, screamin down the line towards The Heartbreak Hotel. The duo launch She and I nationally throughout July.
