KIM SALMON

KIM SALMON - ROOTED

Kim Salmon is no stranger to the blues.

He knows his roots and is certainly acquainted with the E chord.

“That may well be” you say, but everyone knows Johnny Rotten has more chance of being invited to Byron Bay than Kim!

‘Rooted’ is a solo show developed by Kim to explore his own peculiar relationship with Roots Music.
When his peers defected to the country of Blues, Folk
….. and well…Country,
Kim remained true to his ‘punk’ roots.
The peers were aging and opted for grace.
Kim it seems opted for disgrace!

Thing is, everyone knows post punk is just a pentatonic scale away from a Blues wail.
In Rooted, Kim will hotwire the stolen vehicle he’s driven round in for decades, regaling you, the passenger, with tales of all night boogying, busted mojos, killing floors…cheatin…eighty eights and forty fours as he drives you to the crossroads.

Rooted is not just a regular band or solo set but follows on from various concept based narratives that Kim has developed in the latter part of his career.
Shows such as his Labcoat Tales, Haunted Grooves, SALMON (as seen with alarming regularity on Spicks and Specks).
You’ll witness him in the role of hollering, stomping , yarn spinning roots troubadour.

Like his chances of getting to Byron bay
Mr Salmon’s take on this subject can be pretty much called ‘Rooted’.

XANI

Sat 9th July 8:30pm

Violinist and singer-songwriter, Xani is about to embark on her first regional tour in years. She loves nothing more than performing live on stage and she’s ready to get back out there to share some new music.

Accompanying her on this tour is Xani’s brand new single ‘Dreaming of You’; a dreamy disco-pop sensation from her forthcoming album ‘An Inaccurate History of Electronic Dance Music’. This new track features Xani’s signature strings inspired by the disco-era, alongside her collaborator’s tasty contributions of drums and bongoes (Justin Olsson), bass (Isaac Barter), and everything else (Liam McGorry).

Xani returns to regional Victoria this July to reacquaint herself with trees, wide open spaces and delightful baked goods. Get on board and treat yourself to some eclectic violin sounds, catchy songs and mesmerising foot work from one of Australia’s most-loved musicians. Xani has toured Japan, appeared on ABC’s RocKwiz, played the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performed in the multi-award winning musicals Come From Away and Girl From the North Country. Xani has also played with a diverse group of well-loved songwriters including Clare Bowditch, Tim Rogers, Thando, Kate Ceberano, Jens Lekman and Jordie Lane.

SPECIAL GUEST Anna Smyrk

With a voice described as ‘truly astonishing’ by Rolling Stone, Anna Smyrk is a powerful singer and song-maker. Her songs are anthemic indie bombshells, equally satisfying for word nerds and pop-hook obsessives alike. She’s having a massive year and comes to Major Tom’s fresh off the back of touring in Canada and working on a new record in Nashville.

DAVID WESTERN with JESSI-MAE PARKER

Sat 2nd July 8:30pm

“David Western’s songs draw you in so close you feel like you are sitting next to him, and you are reassured by his presence. Honest and preceptive, a true songwriter on the rise, well worthy of a repeated listen.” – Henry Wagons, Double J

“David is one of my favourite Australian musicians. He is a sharp, unique songwriter, a beautiful guitarist and a real musician’s musician. I always look forward to David’s releases for songwriting inspiration.”
– Julia Jacklin

“Country Victoria has spawned a gifted singer-songwriter in the form of David M. Western. His indie-folk-rock exhibits charmed musicianship, and he has an uncanny ability to write songs which make you pay attention to what he has to say.” – The Au Review

“Honest, slightly quirky and stripped-back alt folk meets laidback indie rock as Western's lyrics hark back to classic songwriters of yesteryear” – Scenestr

Cherished Melbourne singer songwriter David M. Western is thrilled to finally unearth the entirety of his long-awaited debut album Child Mind. Trickling out a string of equally arresting singles since 2020 including album icebreaker ‘Instant Life’, tongue-in-cheek follow up ‘Take Your Opportunities’, the Springsteen and Orbison inspired ‘Blue Eyes Red’, and recent album opener and namesake ‘Child Mind’, David M. Western has built a dedicated cult following with his earnest interrogations of the mundane, the unusual, the tragic and the beautiful. His songs have been added to 2SER, SYN FM and Aussie Music Weekly rotation, with premieres on both Triple J and Double J nationally. In the midst of a month-long Melbourne residency David is stoked to present his debut body of work and announce an upcoming string of shows across regional Victoria
