BABY BLUE

Sat 4th June 8:30pm

Special guest HANNAH BLACKBURN

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Baby Blue have been around for longer than it seems, given their prolificacy in the Melbourne music scene. Having quickly become a staple of the local scene through their relentless gigging, the band, centred around Rhea Caldwell, have been turning heads with their infectious melodies and live show which is a joy to behold.

In the band’s short existence, they’ve been invited to open up 2017’s Boogie Festival and support the likes of international bands Chastity Belt, Benjamin Booker, Shakey Graves and The Courtneys, as well as fellow Australian luminaries G Flip, Husky, Jordie Lane, Ella Hooper, Holy Holy and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

CONG JOSIE & THE CRIMES + OUR CARLSON

Fri 11th March 8:30pm

Chop chop! Cong Josie & The Crimes are revvin and choppin their way to the country and back!

The debut LP, CONG! came out late last year to rave reviews. It won Triple R's coveted 'Album of The Week' and it was among The Guardian's best Australian records of 2021. Like the live show, CONG! traverses a hyperreal world of romance, sleaze, smoke and gyrating hips. Below this, throbbing synth rhythms and early rock 'n' roll kicks simmer and shake. Pitchfork recently described the LP as "a heady, gleefully ridiculous piece of genre pastiche held together by ... flamboyance and predilection for showmanship." Cong Josie's music is also deeply personal however, with much of the music inspired by therapy sessions - leading to songs of introspection and inner-demon exorcisms!

Together with his band The Crimes, Cong has been wowing audiences with his 'leave-it-all-out-there' sweat-fuelled stage (chairs, tables, floor) manner. From electronic stompers to post-punk swampers and Lynchian romance it will take you places. Major Tom's is in for one hell of a steamy rodeo-rave-up!

BODY TYPE

Sat 5th March 8:30pm

Body Type are a garage pop group based in Sydney. Sophie MComish (guitar, vocals), Cecil Coleman (drums), Georgie Wilkinson-Derums (guitar, vocals) hail from Western Australia, while Annabel Blackman (guitar, vocals) is from the opposite side of Australia’s coastline in New South Wales, but by some great stroke of luck they all relocated to Sydney for hope, dreams and full-time jobs. What began as a jam session between Sophie and Cecil gained momentum with the addition of wildcards Annabel and Georgia, and the group released their first single ‘Ludlow’ in 2016, which was recorded in an attic on borrowed gear by Nathalie Pavlovic.

2018 saw the release of the group’s eponymous EP through Inertia Music and Partisan Records. Body Type’s second EP followed in 2019, aptly titled ‘EP 2’. It was a huge year for them, the band flying to the US, UK and EU for the time playing a string of festivals including SXSW, The Great Escape and their own headline tours, before heading back to Australia where they played their biggest rooms to date. 2020 is already off to a flying start with festival slots in place and who knows, perhaps some new music on the cards..

BAD BANGS

Sat 26th Feb 8:30pm

Bad Bangs celebrate the launch of their debut album Character Building, amidst a regional Victorian tour. Character Building embodies the quartet's penchant for nuanced garage rock - a  journey through scuzzed-out tones, clattering rhythms and tender, introspective lyricism, the foursome unabashedly toes the line between sophistication and total chaos. Recorded and produced by John Lee at Phaedra Studios, the album has received acclaim across the country, named feature album of the week at 4ZZZ (Brisbane), SYN FM (Melbourne) and Edge Radio (Tasmania). Joining them on the night will be the masterful Baby Velvet!
