JORDIE LANE - Secret Show

Fri 22nd Aug 8pm

Nashville-based, Melbourne born folk artist Jordie Lane, returns to Australia to celebrate the 1st birthday of his acclaimed new album ‘Tropical Depression’. With the album debuting at No #1 on the ARIA Australian Country Chart, Lane will return to local stages after a series of sold out shows in 2024, and additions to many best-of-lists and mainstage appearances at Woodford and Port Fairy Folk festivals. This new collection of songs and live band show wanders near the intersection of Americana and 60s-inspired folk while sticking strong to his Roots storytelling crowd favourites such as ‘Black Diamond’ and ‘I Could Die Looking At You’ . Packed with humour, wit and sharp social commentary, Tropical Depression tackles a broad range of topics, from facing extreme weather to Lane’s own mental health journey.

THE LATE ENTRANTS

Fri 1st Aug 8:30pm

A late-bloomer singer-songwriter superband forged in the cultural hotbeds of Malmsbury and Drummond, this genre-bending group dabbles fearlessly in indie folk, rock, and electronic sounds, using these genre ideas to create something indescribable by the group but accidentally memorable to those that bear witness.

Led by Chris Hudson on vocals, keys and guitar and Josh Ellis on vocals and guitar (both known locally as “who’s that guy?”), the band’s lineup is rounded out by the groove styling Steve Myers on bass and human metronome Damien Fletcher on drums.

The Late Entrants, born from finding spare time, backyard jams, and the universal small-town belief that “you should be heard by more than you neighbours,” The group brings heartfelt lyrics, layered instrumentation and the unshakable energy of four blokes who finally figured out what they wanted to be when they grew up.

The show will also feature special guest and local legend Jared Brentnall. Jared is a Melbourne based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist who combines a multitude of influences and his love of songwriting into something diverse, thought-provoking and sonically rich. Jared has been heavily involved in the Melbourne music scene for over 15 years, playing in instrumental post-rock, progressive, contemporary rock, indie and alternative bands.

Fletching

Sat 26th July 8pm

Local artist Kent Wilson debuts his sonic project – Fletching – a layering of instrumentation, bird song, and occasional vocal samples. Beats, bass, synths and strings combine to blend and bend genres into soundscapes for imaginary adventures into nether realms.

One time bassist with 90s funk-metal outfit Quell, Fletching puts the collision of rock and electronic sensibilities of that era at its core. Then couches it in bird song from field recordings. Is that a currawong and a trumpet dueting over an 808? It just might well be.

Featuring tracks from his latest EP ‘New bird with temples’, plus fresh tunes, old tunes, and looney tunes.

Special Guest DJ Lando Calrissian

Monnone Alone w/ The Steinbecks

Sun 18th May 2:30pm

Monnone Alone pay a visit to Major Tom's in Kyneton to help launch their fourth album Here Comes the Afternoon on Sunday, May 18 with special guests, indie legends The Steinbecks.

Although the name may suggest otherwise, Monnone Alone are a bona fide pop group based around the songwriting of Mark Monnone (ex-Lucksmiths) and featuring members of A-grade pop tinkerers Architecture in Helsinki, Mid-State Orange and Ciggie Witch.

The new album was predominantly recorded on 8-track cassette by Monnone Alone in their shabby-chic backyard studio Stock Cube in the inner-northern Melbourne suburb of Coburg, with some sparkly touches added by Gareth Parton at Los Bomberos.

Deviating from the straight-ahead powerpop of 2019’s Summer of the Mosquito and the locked-down bedroom pop of Stay Foggy (2021), the new album delves into some gentle psychedelia and sunshine pop whilst touching ever so fondly upon The Apples in Stereo, The Who, The Cure, The Bats and yes, Happy Mondays!

Very special guests at the Major Tom's show, making a rare live appearance, will be The Steinbecks featuring various members of the Meadows family, who’ve also been known to play with bands such as Blush, Leaf Mosaic and The Sugargliders.
