EDEN with guests James Dixon & Grumpy Neighbour

Saturday 10th September 8:30pm

From the outset Eden have retained a unique musical vision driven by the will to value and pursue creative instinct. Eden’s initial 12 inch EP ‘The Light Between Worlds’ was released in 1990 on Nightshift records, Scotland. The EP caught the attention of BBC Radio’s John Peel who featured tracks on his show, resulting in rapid support of Eden by The Alternative Press Magazine in the USA. In 1991 Eden moved to London based label Third Mind who continued to grow the band’s profile in Europe and the USA through release of Eden’s first full length CD ‘Gateway to the Mysteries’ in 1992. The album was described by the music press as sounding akin to ‘the Cocteau Twins had they existed in the 1890s‘. In 1993 Eden joined the roster of Projekt Records, releasing ‘Healingbow’ (1993) and ‘Fire and Rain’ (1995). The same year Eden released a CD of remixes and rarities titled ‘Earthbound’. The ‘Stone Cat’ mini-album was released in 1997.

Eden’s sonic palette crosses a range of genres inclusive of the spaciousness of dream pop, the guitar glissando of shoegaze and the eastern tinged aspect of Neo-psychedelia.

Eden are currently writing and performing new material in venues around Melbourne.
A new recording will be released in 2016.

Eden are:
Sean Bowley: Vocal, 6 & 12 String guitars
Andrew Kutzer: 12 String guitar
Matthew Sigley: Bass guitar, drum machine and keyboards

FOAM

Sat 20th Aug 8:30pm special guests Heads Of Charm

Hailing from Perth WA (arguably the grunge capital of Australia) long standing three-piece FOAM have returned to claim their distorted throne with the announcement of the first single “I Could Milk Myself” off their upcoming debut album (TBA), as well as a run of national tour dates throughout July and August.

I Could Milk Myself” is a slow-burning melodic masterpiece - trading in the usual raucous volume we have come to expect from the trio on their previous EP releases Sarpa Salpa (2013), Run Kon Koma (2014), FOAM/Puck split vinyl (2015) and The Feeling Is Mutual (2015). Though considerably less loud, none of the intensity is lost here, and allowing the howling vocals to take the spotlight.

With influences including Nirvana, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, The Breeders, The Drones and anything Steve Albini, and a solid reputation as a strong live band, their performances deliver a filthy wall of sound reminiscent of the alternative rock boom of the late 80’s/early 90’s. FOAM have toured Australia several times supporting acts including The Rubens, DZ Deathrays, Wax Witches and Sleepy Sun (USA), as well as playing MATES Festival, Big Day Out, WAM Festival, and Groovin The Moo.

TRACY MCNEIL & THE GOODLIFE

Sat July 23rd 8:30pm

Tracy McNeil has been releasing albums in Australia to the adulation of critics and aficionados since her arrival in 2007.

Her 2014 release Nobody Ever Leaves received two nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards for ‘Best Country Album’ & ‘Best Folk/Roots Album’ and was named Australian Artist/Band of the Year in Rhythms Magazine ‐ editor Martin Jones describing their live show as ‘fully realized, world-class country‐rock’.

Throughout her travels in 2015 between Melbourne, Nashville, LA and Canada, productive and cathartic writing sessions would ultimately produce Thieves, McNeil's fourth studio album.

Co-producer Shane O’Mara has applied a healthy dose of Californian shimmer, harking back to the halcyon days of late 70’s L.A. country rock. Driving drum tracks, Laurel Canyon-esque harmonies hung from pop-hooks, and McNeil writing at her most assured and forthright make Thieves an undeniable lighthouse in the storm.

SEAN McMAHON & THE MOONMEN with JARED BRENTNALL

Sat 21st May 8:30pm

An engaging, energetic performer and a true believer in the song itself, Sean McMahon writes the kind of songs that more than hold their own, and has a voice to back it up

He's a versatile artist with an unmistakable style that rings true across a variety of sonic landscapes captured in his highly regarded recording career to date, through the densely textured electric-guitar soaked alt country of Downhills Home, the sombre, sparse, bluesy hues on concept album 'Welcome to Gippsland', and the raw, dusty folk on 'Live At The Last Hotel' with acoustic trio Western Union.

While his last album could be described as a journey through heartfelt alt-country that beautifully conveyed a singer/songwriter's love affair with the American songbook and a 1930's Kay guitar, his latest offering sees him move away from an acoustic, singer/songwriter approach, instead exploring a more eclectic blend of elements within blues, psychedelic country, folk, and rock'n'roll with his new band the MoonMen.

After eventually reuniting with members of Downhills Home (Josh Duiker on drums and Michael Hubbard on bass), The 'MoonMen' hit Matt Walker's studio to lay down the basic tracks for 9 songs, before bringing in Ben Franz on Pedal Steel and overdubbing the finishing touches to the new album, 'Shiner'.

'Shiner' is at times personal and reflective, at other times ambiguous and playful, but as always, loaded with poetic phrase and melodic hooks, and all hung from the pickups of a 60's Harmony Rocket

Jared Brentnall is a Kyneton born and raised now based in Melbourne singer songwriter. Jared's band, Jarek have been a long-term fixture of the Melbourne instrumental music scene. In recent years, Jared has crafted his solo shows into a diverse collection of original material, covers and ambient soundscapes.

HOT WINGS and LA BASTARD

HOT WINGS and LA BASTARD

Sat 14th May 8:30pm $12

Hot Wings are the brainchild of stellar guitarist Lizzie Sedman (The Charlies, Telltale) a guitar goddess that has been hot and wingy for years! With influences drawing far and wide from Les Paul, to Stevie Ray Vaughan, to The Break, to The Ventures,  Liz has carefully handpicked a band to bring her new surfy, swingy, guitar boogie sounds to life. This flaming hot bucket of wings is made up of Melbourne’s finest musicians, Scott Cherry (The Charlies) is nothing but brilliance on the bass. A musician that stands out from the pack and draws on his many musical experiences and influences such as Carol Kaye, Kyuss and The Bob Cats to masterfully give Hot Wings the bass of a lifetime.

Picture Nancy Sinatra jamming with Dick Dale and the Gun Club at the best party of the year. Because that’s precisely the type of exciting and eclectic mix of 50′s rock ‘n roll, 60′s surf and 80′s punk attitude that best describes the sound of Melbourne, Australia four-piece La Bastard.

Forming in late 2010 and quickly signing with respected garage rock label Off the Hip, the band have been acclaimed for their tight, reverb-drenched sounds and their notoriously wild live shows, which see band members crowd-surf, clamber onto tabletops, bars and furniture, and entire audiences join the band up on stage.
