OBSCURA HAIL

Fri 9th Feb 8:30pm

Join Naarm/Melbourne based trio Obscura Hail for the launch of the band's new single 'Long Play' lifted from their soon to be released album 'Playing Dead' out March 1st (Dot Dash/Remote Control Records).

After letting the dust settle on their widely supported double EP ‘Siren’ (2020) "consoling, cathartic indie rock that will make you feel less alone" - NME, Sean Conran, Tamara Issa, and Kaelan Emond of Obscura Hail, return to mellow things down and return to roots.

Amassing a fiercely loyal following, “The perfect song wraps the memories of the listener in those of the writer until you can’t tell what is yours and what isn’t" - The Guardian and widely supported across Australian radio, "Drawing on the power of memories, the Melbourne based trio have produced their finest work so far" - Triple J - Obscura Hail have performed alongside Kele Okereke (Block Party), Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin, Cam Avery (Tame Impala, Pond) Soaked Oats, Bad Dreems and Hayley Mary to name a few, and have appeared at Brunswick Music Festival, Sydney Road Street Festival, By The Meadow Festival, Changes Festival, Kyneton Music Festival, Isol-Aid Festival & Bigsound 2019 + many more.

Blushing in between some of the band’s favourite artists, Obscura Hail's'Playing Dead' remains a testament to Sean Conran’s diy indie song-writing style; a nightly ritual of writing and recording to give closure to anxious thoughts of mortality and ontology through ad-hoc means. "Obscura Hail cement their reputation as an outfit with a firm grasp of the emotional zeitgeist, handling modern-day heaviness with the gentle, clear-eyed intelligence of forebears like The Cure and Sujan Stevens." - theMusic.com.au

The full band display cross sections of this personal routine. In a live setting, think beautiful projections, atmospheric acoustic percussion, loops and the use of drum machines blended with biting guitars."Obscura Hail are as proficient as they are charming" - Double J

Obscura Hail come to you harmonised, dynamic and existentially curated. If you're in the right place at the right time; you may also witness an accompanying set of home-stitched visuals that translate the themes of these seemingly optimistic songs, "A perfect song of escape. Feels like good timing." - Richard Kingsmill, in a way you cannot unsee. "I'm a goner. How absolutely beautiful." - Zan Rowe

Proving an obsessive commitment to songwriting as a craft, Obscura Hailexternalise memory for the sake of preservation

THE SEVEN UPS

Fri Feb 2nd 8:30pm

This heavy groove combo from Melbourne will take you on an abstruse journey into the darker fringes of instrumental music, drifting from funk to spiritual jazz and through to psychedelic fuzz rock. The Seven Ups are your soundtrack to the dancefloor at the end of the world.

The bands new album is a deep dive in to the lesser-known-places of instrumental music. Singles: Old World Monkeys and Monoliths are a mature take on the bands classic heavy-funk sound that has seen them become stalwarts on the Melbourne music scene over the last 13 years. Meanwhile, the band stretches out on the long-form instrumental tracks A Free Blowing Wind and A Cosmic Scale, taking listeners on a meandering journey from deep psychedelic grooves, to lush plateaus and onwards to aggressive fuzz rock.

The Seven Ups have become a regular on the touring circuit playing festivals including Meredith, Womadelaide, Blues on Broadbeach, Riverboats, Queenscliff and more. The bands music has music has been featured in Wax Poetics (USA), album of the week (thrice!) on PBS fm and Beat magazine, top 10 on RRR and top 10 on KEXP (USA).

ENOLA ‘All Is Forgiven Tour’

ENOLA ‘All Is Forgiven Tour’

Sat 13th Jan 8:30pm

Naarm/Melbourne based musician ENOLA infuses hard hitting tracks with a stinging vulnerability, applying the salve to the self-inflicted wound. With an instinctual understanding of the balance between heightened drama and grimy reality, ENOLA is simultaneously screaming from the rooftops and digging their nails into the cracks of the pavement.

Their raw post-punk is underpinned by a background in electronic production, melded with the grunge and shoe gaze ever present in their home base of Naarm/Melbourne. In the same vein as Shame and Fontaines DC, ENOLA traverses boundless plains musing on isolation and in search of catharsis. Poignant and uninhibited, their vocals are a punch in the gut, leaving a familiar pang felt in the most unexpected ways.

An enigmatic performer, ENOLA brings a wild energy, holding audiences so tightly captive that static builds and lightning could strike, splintering it all apart at any moment. Having supported the likes of Sleaford Mods, EKKSTACY, RVG, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Divide and Dissolve all in the last year, ENOLA has made a name for themselves as one of the most exciting live acts in the country. Delivering the urgency of IDLES and atmosphere of Joy Division, ENOLA have carved out their own unique sound, an important and powerful contribution that needs to be heard.

ENOLA was recently announced in The First 50 for 2024’s The Great Escape festival which they will be playing next year.

AL MATCOTT and STEEL WHEELS

Fri 1st Dec 8:30pm

Join Al Matcott and Steel Wheels for the launch of Al Matcott’s new album Summer’s Coming (Cheersquad Record). Formerly a drummer, guitarist and singer in a number of bands including Euphoriacs, Honey Badgers and Buried Feather, Al Matcott made his solo debut in 2021 with the release of the four-track EP You Can Be Anyone and quickly followed with a string of singles in 2022 including ‘Crystal Ball’ and ‘Sophia’. His releases have seen swift support from CLASH, The Indie Scene, Radio X (UK), Triple R, PBS, Double J, Pilerats and many others, all praising his strong storytelling and delicate balance of the dark and the light across expertly written songs. His freshly released album 'Summer's Coming' (produced by Wade Kierghan) showcases a blistering rhythms section and caterwauling guitars. It's a journey of an album, one that takes Matcott's songwriting to scorching new heights.

Steel Wheels is an anachronistic project in the age of isolation and the bedroom producer: an oversized outfit that pumps out rock with an unmistakable country tinge. There’s no doubt it goes against the grain — but it’s all the better for it.

It takes all seven members of Steel Wheels to produce their signature sound. The saxophone and keys play melodies fresh and pretty, with harmonies by four singers backed by plenty of guitar and drums to keep it gritty.

The band was born in 2020 with the release of their first two singles 'Tied Up' and 'Standing Still'. Steel Wheels are country enough without any of the gimmicks, but rock and roll enough to slide their way into any associated scene and stand on their own.

Though Steel Wheels formed only last year, the Melbourne band has a chiselled sound that hints at years of being honed on the road. And when this seven-piece machine roars into life in Alexander, their third single, it produces elemental melodies that simply can’t be denied

Which we will be recording and releasing very soon!  We continue through our playing whether it be covers or originals to be very tight and well coordinated making us a good brotherhood of musicians, coming from all different types of musical backgrounds.

Our goal and sound as a band is made of heavy running drums and loud distorted riffs. We like to reach out to those wanting to move and truly capture once again that heavy sound of the 90s.
