RJ ANDREW

Sat 26th Aug 8:30pm

Richard Andrew (aka RJ Andrew) is probably best known as the 'whirlwind' of arms behind the drum kit for Melbourne's Underground Lovers and formerly of Black Cab, Crow and Registered Nurse .  While living in Kyneton a couple of years ago, he decided during one of our seemingly endless lockdowns  - to write and record an album of what he likes to describe as 'cinematic ballads'…..with no drums!

He released his debut solo album 'Black River' earlier in the year to critical acclaim (9 / 10 - Backstreet Mafia) and has continued with his band, including occasional guest vocalist Angie Hart to build a growing live following.

He is delighted to be preforming his first ever SOLO show at Major Tom's on Saturday the 26th of August….it's a WORLD PREMIER …in KYNETON!

As an extra treat - Tylden's favourite son, the wonderful Andrew McCubbin will also be performing his rich and gorgeous music.

'Black River' is available on vinyl and digital through Bandcamp www.rjandrew.bandcamp.com and all things RJ Andrew can be found atwww.rjandrew.com.

Matt Malone & The Holy Spirits (Henry Hugo, Anthony Cornish, Ash Jones, Maggie Williams, Ian Chaplin) are releasing their forthcoming LP - FOR THE TERM OF MY NATURAL LIFE through VRS Records (Vinyl / CD).

MOOSEJAW RIFLE CLUB

Sat 29th July 8:30pm

The Moosejaw Rifle Club was formed in 2008 at a friend’s party when a disgruntled neighbour pulled the circuit breaker out of the  power board to kill the music. Acoustic instruments were found and played and the band was formed. Arriving at their name following a rigorous process involving names in a hat and the voting say so of many interested and not so interested friends, the band began writing songs that initially largely told the history of the 33,000 person strong Saskatchewan town in Canada, Moose Jaw. The question has, understandably be posed a number of times as to why? A satisfactory answer has never been proffered. While subscribing to a local Melbourne radio station one day, a band member slowly articulated the band name, “M-o-o-s-e-j-a-w, it’s all one word.” The Canadian accented voice on the other end of the line replied sardonically, “No it’s not”.  Despite that, the band has kept it as one word. On another occasion ringing the same station to resubscribe, there was more confusion because when the card arrived in the mail it was labelled “Slackjaw Rascal Club” which was seriously considered as a name change for a while.

Playing acoustic instruments, guitar, mandolin, banjo, double bass and percussion, the Moosejaw Rifle Club create lively, foot tappy, thigh slappy, head bobby sounds that bring smiles to people’s faces. If they’re known for anything at all, it’s their harmonies. The lads lock in to create layered, melodic and harmonic loveliness. Their sets are mostly comprised of originals with the occasional traditional track thrown in for good measure. A strength of the band has always been multiple song writers, singers and to some extent, styles, ranging from folk, country, rock elements and bluegrass. Any still curious reader of this will find several releases on Spotify or whatever digital musical platform they prefer. They have a new album, Mooncussers, coming out in 2023.

VALLEY ROAD

Sat 1st July 8:30pm

Local folk duo Valley Road are excited to be launching their first single, 'The Wind Blew West', from their upcoming debut album. It's a fitting venue, given they played one of their first ever gigs together back when Major Tom's opened.

Valley Road winds through the rolling basalt hills north of Kyneton, connecting two friends, Rebecca Jane Howell and Marty Mckenna, who have been singing together for over a decade. They weave their experiences into songs of people and place (usually sitting around Marty’s farmhouse kitchen table), bringing an Australian perspective to their diverse folk influences.

When Valley Road take to the stage, their years of friendship and singing together shine through, drawing listeners into their rich inner worlds through their contrasting yet perfectly suited voices and delicate guitar playing.

The pair won a Troubadour Foundation Award after enchanting the crowd at the 2022 Burke and Wills Folk Festival, and have recently recorded their first album together on the Central Coast of NSW with acclaimed producer Rod McCormack (to be released in October 2023).

“Listening to Valley Road’s debut album is like finding a patch of shade from the relentless burning sun. It has a restful, quiet beauty that invites you to linger. Their gentle harmonies weave stories of people and places that seem from another time." - Vikki Thorn, The Waifs

SUNFRUITS

Fri 19th May 8:30pm

Sunfruits are pleased to announce their biggest Australian tour yet in support of their forthcoming debut album, One Degree. In high anticipation ever since the Melbourne/Naarm band released their Certified Organic EP in 2020, the album sees their most mature and conceptual songwriting to date. As heard in recent singles ‘End Of The World’, ‘Believe It All’ and ‘Made To Love’, the album showcases Sunfruits’ incredible talents in writing memorable psychedelic pop songs and their desire to use their music for good. The album is filled with anthemic choruses, melodic psychedelia, harmonious ballads and danceable indie pop, interplaying with potent lyrical messages of hope and despair. Through the album’s 11 tracks the band explore environmental collapse, resilience, self-reflection, love and relationships, all textured with a coming-of-age feel.

“Taking on environmental anxiety, self-reliance and resilience, and, above all, escapist love, Sunfruits upcoming record should be just as deliciously joyful and thoughtful as their new single." — Rolling Stone AU/NZ

The 5 piece band will be performing the new album with 8 shows across the east coast of so called Australia including their first time in Kyneton at Major Toms on May 19th.

Joining Sunfruits at Major Toms will be post-punks Property.

THE PINK STONES - Cancelled

THE PINK STONES - Cancelled

It is with great sadness, due to immigration issues, The Pink Stones are unable to depart their home state of Georgia, USA for travel next week to play Boogie festivals and headline shows around the country. The band will definitely be touring Australia this year at some point, and we look forward to them being their unique style some time down the line. Apologies for any hassle this has caused ticket buyers, and expect a refund from the relevant ticketing agency as soon as they can. Keep believing in great music.”

Sat 8th April 8:30pm

Introducing The Pink Stones: a full serving of Peach State picked country-rockers from Athens, Georgia. Exactly two years to the day since the band released their classic cosmic country album, Introducing…The Pink Stones (Normaltown Records), the lads will be heading down under for their debut Australian tour, ready to wow audiences with a new chapter in the annals of Cosmic American Music.

With a show filled with raucous rock’n’roll, humour and heartaches, The Pink Stones were first inspired by The Lemonheads’ version of Brass Buttons, only to realise that their young ears were touching the surface of the catalogue of the late great Gram Parsons. And it was from this moment, the then-college students decided they liked country music. Big time.

The debut album is a classic hat trick of country music and the end result is a fresh and exciting LP from a great band.

The Pink Stones will be here in April, straight after they make waves at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March.

“The Pink Stones, a six-piece outfit creating some of the most shimmering, melancholic Southern rock in years… Introducing doesn’t just tell us who The Pink Stones are, it gets us tickled for what they’ll do next.” – No Depression

“Athens Georgia, the college town that introduced R.E.M., The Drive-By Truckers, and the B-52s to the world has once again produced an exciting rising new band.”Under the Radar

“The Pink Stones reinvigorate cosmic country…” – PopMatters

“Given this fine introduction, The Pink Stones would seem to have a promising future before them. Gram would certainly approve.” 4 out of 5 Stars – American Songwriter

BLUE MOON MARQUEE

BLUE MOON MARQUEE

Fri 24th March 8:30pm

Blue Moon Marquee perform original compositions influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. A.W. Cardinal, a Metis of Cree heritage (vocals/guitar) and Jasmine Colette a.k.a. Badlands Jass (vocals/bass/drums) have played everywhere from jazz clubs, Lindy Hop dance halls, folk venues, blues haunts, hospitals, prisons, motorcycle joints, dive bars and festival stages.

The result of 9 years of rigorous crisscrossing Europe and North America is a distinct energy & style from this acclaimed duo. Carving a path through blues, jazz, jump jive, folk, country, swing and Indigenous soul with an authentic spirit, their sound does not idle easily in one certain category. It stomps and struts through the wilds, conjuring a blend where Howlin’ Wolf tangos with Django, Ernest Tubb shoots firecrackers with Cab Calloway, and Memphis Minnie throws dice with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.

Colette not only commands the upright bass but also brings the rhythm with her feet on a custom foot drum kit, all while singing in her signature honey-dipped tone. Cardinal’s distinctive and soulful vocals barrel out like a raging bull while his guitar crackles with the swinging energy of jazz-tinged blues.
