PLEASURE COMA

Fri 22nd March 8:30pm TICKETS https://www.trybooking.com/BBBQD

Emerging from the subconscious, please meet the wide-eyed DIY bunch of eccentric drifters, Pleasure Coma.

Combining milk, exercise and punk rock, Pleasure Coma is thrilled to introduce you to its debut single, “Waiting” and the accompanying video, conveniently sub-titled for German audiences.

The precursor to their 3-track EP Naked, “Waiting” is the first piece of music to be released by the flamboyant 4 piece having spent the last 2 years leaving their mark on venues along the Australian east coast.

Outside of putting pub PAs through their paces, to date they’ve shared stages with Gooch Palms and Bleeding Knees Club charming crowds with their loose and boisterous energy driven by their infectious songs. Along the way Pleasure Coma have become acquainted with festival stages including King Street Crawl and were blessed with an opening set at Splendour in the Grass 2018, charged with the role of christening the Smirnoff tent with a blistering 2 hour DJ set of punk, rock and garage.

Pleasure Coma comprises 4 upstanding young Centrelink beneficiaries who hail from all parts of NSW. Lead singer and guitarist, Tasker, calls the tiny regional NSW township of Guyra home (population 1,900). Later moving to Coffs Harbour and now Sydney, the band’s debut EP was recorded entirely in the space under Tasker’s Ikea-inspired raised bunk bed in his Redfern sharehouse (also featured in the “Waiting” video). Reminiscent of early Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day, the band’s eccentricities and energy beautifully colour their DIY approach, always anchored to carefully crafted songwriting.

A prolific songwriter, 22 year old Tasker might already be familiar to many Australian music fans, with songwriting credits on tracks by Tia Gostelow and Kinder alongside his solo production work collaborating with artists like G Flip and Alison Wonderland. The melodic instincts and musical prowess evident on that work comes to the fore in Tasker’s debut alongside his pals in Pleasure Coma.

Beneath the scuzz and swagger of this ramshackle group are songs which intelligently give breath to day to day struggles. And at a time when being a group of white dudes releasing music might not – on paper – resemble a compelling hook, Pleasure Coma lift the veil on that very concept of modern identity, by exploring themes of esteem, courage and compassion. Lean in closely, there’s more to them than you might think.

SKYSCRAPER STAN & THE COMMISSION FLATS

Fri 15th March 8:30pm

Special Guest Matthew Colin

Celebrating the release of the single "On Your Corner" Skyscraper Stan is bringing his band the Commission Flats to Major Toms as part of his East Coast Tour. Touted as a "beacon of the Australian songwriting scene" "Skyscraper" Stan Woodhouse has been entertaining crowds around the country since the release of his debut album in 2015.

On Your Corner is the latest single from “Golden Boy”, Skyscraper Stan’s second studio album due for release in May 2019. As the songwriter himself says when introducing this track at live shows “This is a song about the unequal distribution of emotional labour in romantic relationships”. Written in a Darwin hotel room halfway through a gruelling solo tour and recorded at Woodstock studios in Melbourne it is typical of Stan’s lyrical work - rich in imagery, honest, heart wrenching and at times a little tongue in cheek.

GEORGIA STATE LINE/ PATRICK WILSON/ WILLIAM ALEXANDER

Fri 8th Feb 8:30pm

Front person of Melbourne based band Georgia State Line; Georgia Delves, alongside songwriters Patrick Wilson and William Alexander are teaming up for a short run of tour dates across March.

There’s a tender, unmistakable charm that lingers in the work of natural-born storyteller, Patrick Wilson. Rich in craftsmanship, Wilson’s trademark sound and approach to songwriting are gifts only strengthened by the life he breathes into performance.
Paired alongside Georgia State Line’s unique brand of country-infused melancholy yields music that’s equal parts heartsick and hopeful. Delves’ voice is effortlessly colourful, lyrical and textural with a depth and grace to rival even the most revered of talents.

Together the pair have performed Out On The Weekend (Wagons, Margo Price), supported Eilen Jewell (USA) and country legends The Bellamy Brothers (USA).

Whilst crooning troubadour and old time folk singer, William Alexander (the kid from Bourke), brings back the songs of hillbilly and country musics greatest figures as well as his own songs of the new world and all its trials and tragedies.

LOOSE TOOTH

Sat March 2nd 8:30pm

Special guests Baby Blue

With Keep Up, Melbourne three-piece Loose Tooth have inked their impeccable ear for a hook on a fresh sonic palate; the howling guitars of their first EP Saturn Returns peeled back to foreground the striking to and fro of the band's distinctive vocalists.  That's three for three - Etta Curry (drums, vocals), Luc Dawson (bass, vocals, guitar, keys), and Nellie Jackson (guitar, vocals) - long time friends with a democratic approach to both songwriting and influences.

Where Saturn Returns was squared in youthful abandon, the band's debut album is the hangover; recognising a tension between keeping up in a shifting landscape of necessity and staking out your own version of happiness as you wave goodbye to your golden twenties.

Raised on the holy trinity of soul, country and Eddy Current, their debut LP is a living reminder that the B-52's used to be a punk band and the light hasn't gone out on the storied shores of St Kilda

DELSINKI

SAT 16TH FEB 8:30PM

What do the ACO, Jim Moginie from Midnight Oil, Steve Pigram from the Pigram Brothers, Brian Ritchie from the Violent Femmes, Richard Tognetti, cinematographer Jon Frank and astounding indigenous musician “Yamatji Man” Mark Atkins have in common?

DELSINKI has joined creative forces with them all.

Shape-shifting uncategorizable post-colonialist DELSINKI will release his debut album, “And No Place Was Found for Them” an amalgam of honest and compelling narratives about war, loss, ageing, tribalism, emotions, nature, the futility of urban life and the perils of conformity. Big themes, fully realised.

Produced elegantly by Cameron McKenzie, the songs are by turn brittle and delicate, orchestral, then rollicking, then hard hitting, then reflective. The album covers the scope of DELSINKI’s extraordinary gamut of styles and collaborations, and each song is accompanied by a deluxe video.

Grateful for small mercies, and being a bower bird par excellence, DELSINKI’s approach contains traces of (amongst others) of Leonard Cohen, Tim Winton, John Brack, and bush poets and dreamers, all of whom litter this unique vision of contemporary Australian life.

Delsinki has a crack band, including Justin Brady from Things of Stone and Wood, a top notch rhythm section and vocalists Ruby, Brooke Taylor and Coby Grant, all of whom share the spotlight on this stunning album.

Delsinki’s music is represented by GO ! / GoGaga - the new home for the songs of Cash Savage, Peep Tempel, Tumbleweed and others

They will be joined by Desperateens who feature musicians from ’Trial Kennedy’ and ‘Ecca Vandal’. Desperateens are normally a 7 piece but for this show will be doing a special line up - two guys and two gals with harmonies galore.

VAN WALKER

Sat 26th Jan 8:30pm

VAN WALKER is a Tasmanian native who's prolific songwriting productivity has seen him become a 'cult figure locally' in his adopted Melbourne, having written over 500 songs across many genres, releasing 6 full length albums between 2008 & 2010, a selection of which the Fuse Music Group released in 2012 on the Underneath the Radar compilation, which met with national critical acclaim, prompting Beat Magazine to quip: “If Bob Dylan was born 20 years later and grew up fraternising in Collingwood bars, he would sound like this,” and Mess & Noise to state, "Literary vigour and scathing social commentary, if there is any justice in this world, Underneath the Radar will provoke a radical awareness & appreciation of Van Walker’s songwriting talents."
