LOOSE TOOTH

Sat March 2nd 8:30pm

Special guests Baby Blue

With Keep Up, Melbourne three-piece Loose Tooth have inked their impeccable ear for a hook on a fresh sonic palate; the howling guitars of their first EP Saturn Returns peeled back to foreground the striking to and fro of the band's distinctive vocalists.  That's three for three - Etta Curry (drums, vocals), Luc Dawson (bass, vocals, guitar, keys), and Nellie Jackson (guitar, vocals) - long time friends with a democratic approach to both songwriting and influences.

Where Saturn Returns was squared in youthful abandon, the band's debut album is the hangover; recognising a tension between keeping up in a shifting landscape of necessity and staking out your own version of happiness as you wave goodbye to your golden twenties.

Raised on the holy trinity of soul, country and Eddy Current, their debut LP is a living reminder that the B-52's used to be a punk band and the light hasn't gone out on the storied shores of St Kilda

DELSINKI

SAT 16TH FEB 8:30PM

What do the ACO, Jim Moginie from Midnight Oil, Steve Pigram from the Pigram Brothers, Brian Ritchie from the Violent Femmes, Richard Tognetti, cinematographer Jon Frank and astounding indigenous musician “Yamatji Man” Mark Atkins have in common?

DELSINKI has joined creative forces with them all.

Shape-shifting uncategorizable post-colonialist DELSINKI will release his debut album, “And No Place Was Found for Them” an amalgam of honest and compelling narratives about war, loss, ageing, tribalism, emotions, nature, the futility of urban life and the perils of conformity. Big themes, fully realised.

Produced elegantly by Cameron McKenzie, the songs are by turn brittle and delicate, orchestral, then rollicking, then hard hitting, then reflective. The album covers the scope of DELSINKI’s extraordinary gamut of styles and collaborations, and each song is accompanied by a deluxe video.

Grateful for small mercies, and being a bower bird par excellence, DELSINKI’s approach contains traces of (amongst others) of Leonard Cohen, Tim Winton, John Brack, and bush poets and dreamers, all of whom litter this unique vision of contemporary Australian life.

Delsinki has a crack band, including Justin Brady from Things of Stone and Wood, a top notch rhythm section and vocalists Ruby, Brooke Taylor and Coby Grant, all of whom share the spotlight on this stunning album.

Delsinki’s music is represented by GO ! / GoGaga - the new home for the songs of Cash Savage, Peep Tempel, Tumbleweed and others

They will be joined by Desperateens who feature musicians from ’Trial Kennedy’ and ‘Ecca Vandal’. Desperateens are normally a 7 piece but for this show will be doing a special line up - two guys and two gals with harmonies galore.

VAN WALKER is a Tasmanian native who's prolific songwriting productivity has seen him become a 'cult figure locally' in his adopted Melbourne, having written over 500 songs across many genres, releasing 6 full length albums between 2008 & 2010, a selection of which the Fuse Music Group released in 2012 on the Underneath the Radar compilation, which met with national critical acclaim, prompting Beat Magazine to quip: “If Bob Dylan was born 20 years later and grew up fraternising in Collingwood bars, he would sound like this,” and Mess & Noise to state, "Literary vigour and scathing social commentary, if there is any justice in this world, Underneath the Radar will provoke a radical awareness & appreciation of Van Walker’s songwriting talents."
